Ken McDonald, drums

Co founder and Director, Ken is an experienced performer of 25 years
plus. Ken is currently drummer with the Sligo based piano trio The Odd
Couple and Anything Goes. Ken has performed or recorded with a wide
spectrum of artists including: Shana Morrison, Louis Stewart, Michael
Nielsen, Frances Black, Tommy Fleming, Alan Kelly,  Richie Buckley,
Sandro Gibellini, No Crows, Rebecca Storm, Boxtie, Those Nervous
Animals, Stockton’s Wing, The Hot City Orchestra and many others. Ken
has been employed as drummer/percussionist for many theatrical
performances, variety shows and dramatic societies. Ken is currently
teaching drums/percussion for the Sligo Academy of Music and Aravon
Prep School  In 2008 he co-founded  the very successful Sligo
Contemporary Music School, attained a qualification in professional
music performance through the Rockschool programme accredited by
Trinity College London and awarded an arts council bursary to attend
the famed Manhattan School of Music, N Y C for a series of master
classes with John Riley who is one of the world’s premier jazz drum
educators.

Ken has been a pivotal figure in Sligo Jazz Project’s summer schools
and has worked very closely with Jazz greats such as Brian Blade
(Wayne Shorter group) Paul Wertico (Pat Metheny group) and Will
Kennedy (Yellowjackets). Ken is also a key member of Sligo Jazz
Project’s “Live Music in the Classroom” team and is a board member of
the Sligo Music Education Partnership.
